The 10 Best Bra Brands For Full Bust & Plus Sized Women

If you’re in possession of a larger bust, you’ll be all too familiar with balcony bras that look like two boulders on each side of your head, or high-apex ones that cover at least 50 per cent of your body. You’ll likely also have looked longingly at the delicate, support-less bralettes that those A-cups flock to.

We’ve been searching for bras that provide all the support you need, but that still manage to look feminine, attractive and have clever detailing that breaks up the cup. You’re welcome.

Once you’ve invested a fair bit in a few key pieces, keep them in top condition by swerving the washing machine. Our favourite (and achievably low-maintenance) handwash option is Soak, a Canadian range of eco-friendly soaps that you simply mix with water, leave your bras to soak in and then hang up to dry – no need to rinse. They start at £9 and available in a range of scents from thelittleknittingcompany.co.uk.

More by Bluebella

More is the DD-G line by luxury-for-less lingerie brand Bluebella. The whole range is black, which we love, with the occasional red detail and has plenty of modern, sheer and strappy designs.

IndyBest Pick: Octavia Bra: £32, Bluebella

We love the sports-luxe feeling of the black mesh and sheer on this bra, as well as the cut-out apex and gold strap details. A lovely low cup combined with a wide strap and underwire for support.

Beija London

Beija London is founded on the simple but revelatory concept that the same design doesn’t suit different cup sizes. Each of its super comfortable styles come in three variations – X, Y and Z – for different cup sizes. If you wear a size DD-G, look out for the Z label.

IndyBest Pick: For Keeps Z Bra in Carbon: £55, Beija London

beija.jpg

Its For Keeps Z bra is a full cup, but it is sheer and unpadded so it doesn’t look like it. It provides great support, sitting flush with the sternum really well, and – our favourite feature – the strap adjusters on the back have a clever clip that allows you to wear it normal or racerback. Also available in purple and red.

L’Agent by Agent Provocateur

Agent Provocateur is not the most obvious brand for DD+ lingerie, but its diffusion (ie cheaper) line L’Agent goes up to an E, so if you’re on the smaller end of D+, you’re in luck. We love that the majority of its bras are underwired but not padded. and have half cups in sheer fabrics so they don’t look massive.

IndyBest Pick: Angelica High Apex Bra in Nude and Ivory: £27, L’Agent by Agent Provocateur

lagent.jpg

This is the closest we came to a bra that feels like you’re not wearing one at all. No underwire or straps digging in, just pretty, unpadded low-rise cups.

Wolf & Whistle

The independent British clothing brand is already a favourite of ours for D+ swimwear, and it currently has an exclusive range of lingerie with Asos up to a G-cup. Coming in October, however, Wolf & Whistle is launching its own line of bras up to an F-cup on wolfandwhistle.co.uk, which will combine alluring styles with great support.

IndyBest pick: Red and Black Lace Underwire Bra: £26, Asos

wolf-and-whistle.jpg

The red underlay and black lace combo makes this a little sexy, but its firm cups round breast out nicely. The wide (three clip) band gives plenty of support so it works for everyday too – as underwear should.

Panache

On the D+ lingerie scene for more than 30 years, the award-winning Panache umbrella brand also includes Cleo (its younger, funkier sister) Panache Everyday for comfort up to a K-cup, and Panache Black for luxe glamour.

IndyBest Pick: Etta Balconnet Bra: £46, Panache Lingerie

There’s something luxurious about the satin finish and sheer stripe details on this bra. The fact that the stripes are also partially sheer breaks up the supportive full cups and keeps it looking elegant. Available up to a G.

Bravissimo

Bravissimo is an old-faithful brand when it comes to larger busts, having been making premium bras up to an L-cup size 1995. It stands out particularly for its own-brand designs offering everyday comfort with firm cups and wide straps, but it also stocks brands such as Freya and Curvy Kate.

IndyBest pick: Elise Bra: £30, Bravissimo

T-shirt bras don’t get much better than this. It’s super comfortable and soft, with a smooth silhouette. The wide straps feel very secure, plus the wire falls slightly lower than others so it sits flat. Also in grey, blue and black.

Fantasie

Fantasie is one of the brands from A-K umbrella company Wacoal, which includes the likes of Freya and Elomi in the stable. Its seasonal collections are best for really delicate, pretty designs in a great range of colours, but it also has a line of essentials in black, white and nude available year-round.

IndyBest Pick: Estelle Silver Side Support Bra: From £38, Fantasie

fantasie.jpg

Once again, our favourite combo of full cups with sheer detailing to keep it delicate. Support-wise, a high apex and wide band and straps make this a comfortable and secure choice, and it’s available up to a G cup. We like the delicate blue-grey, but it’s also available in black, red and navy.

Rigby & Peller

Rigby & Peller, holders of a royal warrant, have been making bras (up to a J-cup) since 1939, and are known for well-trained shop assistants who ditch the measuring tape to do fittings by eye. They’re pricey, with the cheapest at around £60 and rising to over £100, but they are also the longest-lasting bras we know. And if it’s good enough for the Queen...

IndyBest Pick: Primadonna Ray of Light  : £99, Rigby and Peller

rigby.jpg

This combines a low scoop at the back with a wide band round the sides, so it doesn’t look super chunky and can be worn with lower backs. We love the delicate light blue embroidered flowers over the sheer and opaque navy cups. Available up to a G cup.

Asos Fuller Bust

Asos’s own-brand ranges to suit different body types (including tall, petite and maternity) now also includes Fuller Bust, with swimwear, lingerie and clothes designed to fit and suit the DD+ among us. The lingerie range goes up to a HH and is great for detailed, special-occasion numbers.

IndyBest Pick: Premium Gracie Underwire Bra: £28, Asos

asos-fuller-bust.jpg

A clever combination of sexy and most definitely well strapped in, the Gracie features sheer cups with wide black straps and a high apex but half cups: another good choice for breaking up the size of your cups.

Miss Pomelo

Miss Pomelo is a new online brand acing flattering, well-fitting bras for fuller-chested women. Its USP is its Fit Kit – a pack with measuring tape, instructions and some sample swatches, sent by post, to help measure accurately and choose the right style. There are also London-based workshops if you need one-to-one attention. There are currently four pretty styles in various colours, with sizes going up to 46H.

IndyBest Pick: Etta: £46, Ms Pomelo

miss-pomelo.jpg

An ideal everyday bra, Etta gives full coverage and the wide straps and closures make it supportive, with touches like the cotton-lined cups upping the comfort levels. The deep plum colour and touch of lace keeps it still feeling sexy.

The Verdict: Brands for D+ bras

We love More by Bluebella for its clever combination of sexy and supportive, in a reasonable price bracket, while Beija gets our vote for ingenuity and comfortable fit.
