Something dark is coming to the Alola Region, but players should wait for “Pokémon Ultra Sun” and “Pokémon Ultra Moon” first to arrive this November to know what it is. A trailer for the upcoming games appears to tease an alternate narrative [and possibly world] that could prove challenging to Pokémon Trainers.
On Tuesday, The Pokémon Company published a new trailer for “Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon” on YouTube. From the looks of it, the new installments could come with a darker storyline that would change the way players view the first two games. Very conspicuous in the trailer is the addition of darkly hued Pokémon and a more intriguing twist to the “Sun and Moon” narrative.
According to US Gamer, developer Game Freak may have prepared something big for players, and it could be the capacity to explore what’s beyond the Hawaii-like landscape of the Alola Region. There are also clues to the new storyline that players will unravel when the games arrive next month.
“This isn’t the Alola you thought you knew” is the tagline presented at the start of the teaser clip. For some reason, the tropical region has been robbed of its light source. Certain statements presented in the video then suggest that legendary monster Necrozma has something to do with this phenomenon. Of course, the Ultra Beasts could also be involved in this darker plot twist.
Some scenes in the trailer also suggest that Lillie and Island Master Hala will be helping players restore Alola to its original state, as per Polygon. Unfortunately, the way to bring back light to the region remains unknown. It’s very likely that The Pokémon Company won’t be spilling the beans until the games hit the market.
It is also worth noting that Japanese outlet Famitsu recently learned that the script for “Pokémon Ultra Sun” and “Pokémon Ultra Moon” is twice as long as that of “Pokémon Sun and Moon.” This just means that the new games would end up being the most dialogue-filled installments in the history of Pokémon games.
Comicbook has also obtained some interesting news about “Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon.” According to the publication, players will have the ability to catch Legendary Pokémon from other regions. Players can use the Ultra Warp Ride feature and ride either Solgaleo or Lunala to visit Ultra Space and catch Legendary Pokémon there.
Specific details about the Ultra Space have yet to be divulged, but it has now been confirmed that players would be able to catch Legendary Pokémon like Mewtwo in “Pokémon Ultra Sun” and “Pokémon Ultra Moon.” This won’t be the first time that players are getting the ability to travel through portals to capture Legendary Pokémon. “Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire” also had a similar feature.
Other tidbits leaked via NeoGAF ahead of the Nov. 17 release of the games are as follows:
- Not a sequel to “Sun and Moon” for the story features "different divergence."
- The appearance of Ultra Recon Squad will change the story.
- Main Story has different development and there's a new post-game content after beating Pokemon League.
- People who are expecting minor changes like "Emerald" or "Platinum" should be expecting "Ultra Change."
- There's new game content where players can roam around the Ultra Hole and go to different dimensions.
- Capturing and raising Pokemon became easier compared to “Sun and Moon.”
