Plus Size Ladies – From Gemma Collins To Ashley Graham – Show How Wearing Mesh Will Never Go Out Of Fashion

Gemma Collins‘ revealing mesh swimsuit has caused quite the stir thanks to its bold statement – with Gemma herself declaring: ‘Why shouldn’t a plus-size girl wear mesh?’

As she soaked up the rays in Tenerife, wearing her barely-there swimsuit, she looked utterly fabulous and has no doubt inspired hordes of curvier ladies to let go of their insecurities and bare (nearly) all.

Of her poolside look, the Towie star defiantly told The Sun: ‘I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I don’t need to explain my outfits.

‘It’s not for everyone but I loved it – why shouldn’t a plus size girl wear mesh – who said they couldn’t?’

And she’s right.

But she’s also not the first larger lady to don the see-through fabric in the hope of catching a few more rays by the pool, as well as showing every woman out there that they can wear exactly what they like.

From Ashley Graham to Tess Holliday, here are some of the inspiring plus-size – and mesh-loving – ladies that Gemma sits in good company with.

Ashley Graham

Plus-size model Ashley, 30, is one of the most prolific pin-ups for body positive messages.

At size 16, she’s covered fashion magazines – from Vogue to Elle to Harper’s Bazaar – and she even has her own swimsuit range.

Showering her fans with her positive messages, Ashley said earlier this year: ‘I workout. I do my best to eat well. I love the skin I’m in. And I’m not ashamed of a few lumps, bumps or cellulite.. and you shouldn’t be either.’

Her Instagram is existential proof that she loves showing off her famous curves into swimsuits and bikinis off all shapes and sizes – and she’s loved all the more for it.

In fact, Ashley even has a zip-up mesh swimsuit in her own bikini range, having found mesh way before Gemma did.

Ashley’s love of mesh doesn’t finish at poolside frolicking though, as she’s also been spotted out and about a number of times wearing clothes heavily featuring the see-through material.

Keep doing what you’re doing, Ashley..

Felicity Hayward

Felicty Hayward is another excellent ambassador for plus-size ladies, proudly of showing off her body whenever she gets the opportunity.

The 29-year-old is an active campaigner of body positivity, wanting as many girls to feel as confident as she does in their own skin.

She too has been spotted previously wearing mesh, just like Gemma, and showing it really is a trend for every body shape.

Just like Ashley, Felicity is also a fan of wearing the transparent fabric in day-to-day life – why save it just for the beach?

Previously speaking to Metro.co.uk with a strong message about body ‘flaws’, Felicity said: ‘I want to let you know that flaws are a myth, they simply do not exist. They are made up by the media in order to pray on our insecurities and make us spend money.

‘The world would be a much better place if everyone embraced the idea that Self Love Brings Beauty.’

And this little hero also shared a picture of herself in a mesh bikini on Instagram, writing: ‘Cellulite is absolutely normal and isn’t just for curvier girls, it happens to all shapes and sizes.

‘We have nothing to be ashamed or scared of when you can see it. In my opinion you should inspire to be the best version of you and not someone else.’

Tess Holliday

Tess Holliday, 32, also got the memo that mesh is just as much for plus-sized ladies as it is anyone.

The 32 year, who is a size 26, is passionate about campaigning for women to feel good in their own skin.

Another prolific user of Instagram to share her positive message, Tess wrote this inspirational post earlier this month, sharing alongside it an untouched photo of herself in a grey swimsuit with a white mesh cover.

‘Haters will say it’s photoshopped. Some will tell me to cover up. Others will say I’m promoting obesity,’ Tess wrote.

‘Whatever they say, I will still get up in the morning with my head held high, wrapped in the arms of a man who loves me & my fat body & to my kids smiling when they wake up & see their mom… So really, I will stay winning.’

Appearing on Loose Women earlier this year, the mum-of-two told the loose ladies: ‘I am fat but that’s OK because that’s how I identify myself and I want to take the stigma out of the word so that people don’t feel uncomfortable saying it’.

Plus-sized model Candice Huffine has appeared on magazine covers and runways – she was even the first plus-size model to appear in the Pirelli Calendar.

But she’s not just in the fashion industry to be a good role model for curvier ladies – she wants to use her love of running to show women that there is no ‘normal’ body shape.

‘My body doesn’t look like the typical runner’s,’ she told the New York Post last month. ‘I’m not a petite little runner with six-pack abs.’

Happy birthday @carineroitfeld!!! ❤️💃🏻🎉🍑❤️ Thank you for being you and bringing out the best in me! Wishing you all the best! 😘 #CR5 #BrigitteNeidermair

The model – who has also confidently worn mesh outfits in Instagram posts in the past – then added: ‘The trolls contradict themselves on a regular basis. In one breath they say, “All these women need to work out.” But then guess what? If the woman wants to work out, there are no clothes for [her]. So we pay no mind to the haters.

‘I don’t want anyone to stand on the sidelines like I used to do and think they can’t be out there running, too. If I can change the perception of what an athletic body looks like, I’d be so happy.’
