Miss USA 2017 latest update: Miss District of Columbia Kara McCullough wins Miss USA crown

This year's winner:

Miss USA 2017 is Miss Washington, D.C. Kara McCullough.

First runner-up was Miss New Jersey. Second runner-up was Miss Minnesota. 

Miss Washington DC Kara McCullough was crowned Miss USA 2017.

Born in Naples, Italy to a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, McCullough was raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

She earned her bachelor of science degree in chemistry with a concentration in radiochemistry from South Carolina State University and currently works with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

McCullough has an outreach program, Science Exploration for Kids, or SE4K, according to her pageant biography.

The Miss USA pageant is set for Sunday night.

The annual competition, which features representatives from each state, will air live on Fox Sunday, May 14 at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT) from Mandalay Resort and Casino in Los Vegas. Women from all 50 states and the District of Columbia will compete for the opportunity to become the next Miss USA and represent the country in the Miss Universe pageant.

Contestants have been in Las Vegas for a week, taking part in preliminary interviews, swimsuit and evening gown competitions. On Sunday night, the semi-finalists will compete in swimwear, evening gown, on-stage question and final look.

The night will conclude with Miss USA Deshauna Barber crowning her successor.

The winner of Miss USA will stay at a luxury apartment in New York City, which will serve as her home base during her reign. She will also receive a year-long salary, all paid living expenses; personal appearance wardrobe and styling by the official Miss Universe Organization fashion stylist; extensive international and domestic travel; and access to various New York City events including casting opportunities, movie premieres, fashion week, sporting events and career opportunities presented WME|IMG, parent company of The Miss Universe Organization.

This year's pageant will be co-hosted by Julianna Hough and Terrence J. Model Ashley Graham will serve as backstage host.

Performing will be Pitbull and Brett Eldredge. The top of the show will feature a performance by Michael Jackson ONE, a production of Cirque du Soleil(r) and the Estate of Michael Jackson.

Emmy(r) award-winner Julianne Hough and three-time Emmy(r) award nominee Terrence J will host the competition and return as producers of the annual broadcast. Model, designer and body activist Ashley Graham joins as backstage host.

Judges will include: Halima Aden, an IMG model and first woman to compete in a Miss USA state pageant wearing a hijab and burkini.; Carson Kressley, TV personality, style expert, fashion designer and New York Times best-selling author; Brook Lee, model, TV host and former Miss USA 1997, who went on to hold the title of Miss Universe; Nancy Lublin, founder of Dress for Success, a global non-profit that empowers women to achieve economic independence; and CEO of Crisis Text Line - a free, 24/7 crisis support via text message.; Jeannie Mai, style expert, philanthropist, and co-host of "The Real; and Janet Mock: author, TV host and advocate.
