Here's a sneak peek of the 2 new restaurants opening in Birmingham's Elyton Hotel

Opening night has arrived for the two new restaurants in downtown Birmingham's recently opened Elyton Hotel.

Both the ground-floor restaurant The Yard and the rooftop restaurant and bar Moon Shine will be open for dinner starting tonight, July 21.

The Yard opened for breakfast-only last week.

Haller Magee, formerly executive chef at Satterfield's Restaurant in Vestavia Hills and Sky Castle in Lakeview, is the chef in charge of both The Yard and Moonshine.

The Elyton Hotel is a 111-room luxury hotel that opened July 12 in the 108-year-old Empire Building at the intersection of 20th Street and First Avenue North.

The breakfast menu at The Yard will feature buttermilk biscuits with seasonal and local jams, cheeses and meats, $5-$7; as well as signature dishes such as hoecakes with Benton's Country Ham and sorghum $12; Mobile Bay omelet with McEwen & Son grits, $16; and buttermilk fried Tanglewood Farms chicken and waffles, $14.

At lunch, The Yard will offer an "elevated" meat and three option with the choice of pan-roasted or fried Gulf fish, $16; New Orleans shrimp and grits, $16; barbecue short ribs, $18; cider-glazed pork chop, $18; or fried chicken, $16; and the choice of three sides, including whipped potatoes, baby carrots, collard greens, green beans, mac and cheese or marinated beets. The lunch menu also will include soups, salads and sandwiches.

For dinner, The Yard will offer such entrees as grilled Gulf yellowfin tuna with piperade, $33; pan-roasted Gulf cobia with root vegetable ragout, $30; braised beef short ribs with McEwen & Sons grits and glazed carrots, $24; chicken and dumplings with Tanglewood Farms chicken breast and spinach ricotta gnocchi, $24; Fudge Family Farms pork chop with choucroute and sweet potato puree, $28; and hickory-grilled New York strip with poached farm egg and horseradish mashed potatoes, $30.

The Yard is located on the first floor of the hotel, with the main entrance along 20th Street.

Dinner hours will be 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 5 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Breakfast is served 6:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 6:30 to noon Sundays. Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

In addition to craft cocktails and local beers, the menu at Moon Shine, the hotel's rooftop restaurant and lounge, will feature salads (including an heirloom tomato salad with burrata and basil, $12; a beet salad with goat cheese and toasted pecans, $10; and an arugula salad with toasted pine nuts and sultanas, $10); seafood (poached Gulf shrimp, $12; oysters on the half shell, market price; baked oysters and Gulf tuna crudo, market price); and selections from the wood-fired oven (including a daily pizza, $14;  a bacon cheeseburger, $14; chicken wings, $10; a smoked chicken sandwich, $12; and a PB&J sandwich with pork belly, peanut hummus and pepper jelly, $12).

Moon Shine will be open 4 p.m. to midnight daily, with food service beginning at 5 p.m.
